Its object is to receive needle and other work and to dispose of it solelj' for the benefit ot its owners. Orders will also be taken at the Deposi tory for any kind of work, so as to provide em ployment lor those who have not the necessary materials. As considerable expense will be incurred in providing a place of business and the requisite assistants, and as the enterprise cannot of course be sell-supporting, the Association must depend upon the contributions of its friends. The annu al subscription has been fixed at $5 and all who are favorably disposed are earnestly requested to i give their prompt and liberal aid, by donations or otherwise, to help those who are doing their utmost to help themselves. A message was received from the House transmitting sundry engrossed bills which were referred to appropriate committees. On motion of Mr. Avery, the rules were suspended, and the bill authorizing the President of the North Carolina Railroad same which was adopted; and the bill pas-: sed its several readings under a suspension; ol the ruies, and was ordered to be rules, and w as ordered to be en- grossed forthwith and transmitted to the A 1 House. On motion of Mr. Moore, the rults were suspended, and the bill granting aiH to the ' Williamston and Tarboro Railroad Gnpany was taken up, passed its several readings, aud was ordered to be engrossed. ' On motion of Mr. Jones, the rule! ' were suspended, and the vote by which the bill securing to widows their common law rights of dower was rejected, was reconsidered, and, on motion of Mr. Leach, it was' recom mitted to the Committee on the Judiciary. SPECIAL ORDER. Bill to amend the Constitution ot the State was taken up, an amendment was offered, and after some discussion, on motion of Mr. Kelly, the whole matter was laid on the table. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. A resolution providing for the payment of the interest on the public debt, with a bill from the Committee on Finance as'a substi tute for the same, was taken up, amended, and, on motion the whole matter was laid on the table. Also, a resolution fixing the amount of commutation at 50 in favor ol all soldiers entitled to artificial arms, and that said amount bepaid immediately .on application to the Governor. On motion of Mr. Leach, the rules were suspended and the resolution passed its sev eral readings. Also, a message insisting on their substi tute to the bill providing homestead. On motion of Mr. Berry, the Senate isisted on the original bill. ' The House refused to recede from its amendments to the Revenue bill, anil does not concur in the resolution in favor of disa bled soldiers.
